Herbert H. Townsend, lifelong and well-known resident of Ellenville, who had been ill a long time, died at his home here May 4 from a heart attack. He was born here February 18, 1877, son of the late Willett and Sarah Budd Townsend. He retired about 20 years ago after serving as guard and storekeeper at the Napanoch Institution for over 25 years. Mr. Townsend was a life member of Pioneer Engine Co. in which he was active for many years. Surviving are his wife, Laura Eck Townsend; three brothers, Edward of Bridgeport, Hugh of Chester and John of Ellenville; one sister, Mrs. Jeannette Kniffin of Wurtsboro; nephews and nieces.
