From La Porte Chronicle November 1, 1906:
Hope and fruition turned into sorrow and despair within the short period of a day, expresses the sad visitation into the home of Mr. And Mrs. Hance Baker. An infant arrived the first of the week, to bless the home just for a day, and have its remains laid to rest. The sorrowful parents have the warmest sympathies of friends and neighbors. Mrs. Baker's physical condition was reported to be serious for a time, but she is improving and her friends will be glad to know that her complete recovery from her illness, the primary cause of which was pleurisy, is but a matter of a few days.
