DAVENPORT — Stephen J. Korch Sr., 88, of Davenport, passed away on on Wednesday, June 20, 2012, at Genesis Medical Center, East Campus, Davenport.
Burial with military honors in Davenport Memorial Park Cemetery.
Stephen John Korch was born on January 6, 1924, in Davenport, the son of Ico and Agnes (Galovich) Korch. During World War II, he enlisted in the United States Army and was stationed in Rhineland and Central Europe, where he was awarded two Bronze Battle Stars. Upon completion of his military obligations, he came home to Davenport, where he met Kathryn J. Burgher. They were married on November 17, 1946, celebrating 65 years of marriage this past year.
Mr. Korch was employed for 29 years in the freezer department at Oscar Mayer Foods in Davenport, retiring in 1981. He enjoyed woodworking, tinkering with cars and watching football, especially the Chicago Bears.
Surviving members of the family include his wife, Kathryn; a daughter, Charlotte Saklar; two sons, Stephen Korch Jr. and Donald Korch; two sisters, Patricia Bitterman and Mildred Wilhelm; four grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, four sisters and a brother.
