For five seasons (1986 to 1987, 1989 to 1991), he was a pitcher with the Oakland Athletics, Cleveland Indians, Texas Rangers and Philadelphia Phillies. He attended Columbine High School (Colorado) and played collegiate baseball at the University of Arkansas and Mesa State College, prior to being signed by the Seattle Mariners during the 1st round of the 1983 Amateur Draft. He ended up with the Athletics and marked his Major League debut with them on August 1st, 1986; he appeared in 2 games that year. He enjoyed his most productive year in 1990 with the Phillies, when he yielded career-highs with 5 wins, pitching in 71 games, recording 93 innings. In 125 regular season games, he compiled a 9 win 10 loss record with a 5.08 lifetime ERA, in 233 innings pitched. After retiring as a player, he served as a Minor League pitching coach and from 2001 until his death, he was the San Diego Padres' bullpen coach. He died following a battle with cancer.
