Joyce Elaine Janke Ellison
1929-2012
Joyce Elaine Janke Ellison lived. Born on the third day in the month of September when the autumn sun turns gold, in the year of the Great Depression, 1929. The daughter of Paul Joseph Janke and Erna Koplin Janke. She married Lynn Ellison, the boy of her childhood admiration, on August 25, 1951, and followed him to the East coast where he trained to be a soldier in the Korean War. She was born an artist and had an eye and touch for beauty. She leaves a legacy of hundreds of oils, pastels, and watercolors. Her home was her finest creation. A beautiful retreat surrounded by trees and flowerbeds each touched by an artist's hand where all were welcome and each treated as though they belonged. She adored children and dedicated her life and career to their care and wellbeing. She taught many young men in her years of service as a Trailblazer primary teacher and touched many young lives as a teacher's aid in the learning and behavioral disabled program of the Jordan School District. The loves of her life were her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She often described her five boys and one girl as her basketball team and cheerleader. Sue Hoskins, Roger (Leisa), Scott, Robert (Nancy), Jerry (Lisa), and Steve are each a part of her heart as well as her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a devoted and faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and loved doctrine that taught of Christlike love and belonging. A pioneer in her Ward, she established an adult singles group, as well as book clubs and luncheons to ensure everyone had a place and all were welcome. She also served as Relief Society President providing compassion to all. She has blessed us with the gifts and appreciation of art, music, beauty, and love. A private memorial will be held to honor our mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who passed away on June 22, 2012 in her beautiful home surrounded by gardens full of bloom.
