Clarence Groves was born at Wood Lake, Nebr., on June 15, 1889 to Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Groves, and passed away at the Brown county hospital on May 23, 1972 at the age of 82 years, 11 months and 8 days. Clarence grew to manhood near Wood Lake, where he lived with his parents and assisted them on their ranch. In June of 1912 he was united in marriage to Georgia L. Denny of Gordon, Nebr. To this union four children were born: Jacob, Charlot, Clarence, Jr. and Richard. The early years of his married life were spent on a ranch along the Niobrara River, South of Sparks, Nebr.
 
In 1920 he and his family moved to Valentine, where he was employed by the Chicago and Northwestern Railway until August 1935 at which time he was promoted to Section Foreman for the railway at Johnstown, Nebr. He served in that capacity until his retirement in 1951. In June of 1950 he was married to Eva Luse of Meadville, Nebr. They made their home on a ranch near Meadville until the fall of 1969 when he retired from the ranching business. At this time they moved to Ainsworth where they have since made their home.
 
Survivors include his wife, Eva; three sons, Jacob H., and Richard J. of Chadron, Nebr., and Clarence, Jr., of Merriman, Nebr.; one daughter, Charlot J. Blair of Chadron, Nebr.; five stepchildren, Dale B. Luse of North Hollywood, Calif., Ney Luse of Sacramento,Calif., Bea Bridge of Long Beach, Calif., Vera Neufelt of Bakersfield, Calif., and Betty Waters of Grand Island, Nebr. Also surviving are 29 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Lillie Knouvsky of Plano, Tex., and Clara Lambrecht of Albany, Ore.; two brothers, Willis of Mission, So. Dak., and Ross Groves of Portland, Ore., and many friends.
 
He was affiliated with the IOOF Lodge of Ainsworth, Nebr. Although Clarence spent many years with the railroad, he was always interested in farming and ranching and will be remembered by his many relatives and friends as an ardent rancher, farmer, and outdoorsman. Funeral services were conducted at the Hoch-Wisda Funeral Home in Ainsworth on May 25, 1972 at 2 p.m. The Rev. Ron Nelsen of the Church of the Nazarene in Ainsworth and assisted by Rev. Lenore Ball of Baptist Church in Springview conducted the service. Music was by Mrs. Larry Rap and Mrs. Kenneth Fling,organist was Vicki Goochey. Pallbearers were Max Appelt, Marvin Blake, Chet Nelson, Maynard Jones, Ralph Keim and Dean Adcock. Interment was in Mt. Hope Cemetery,Wood Lake, Nebr., with graveside service by IOOF Lodge.
