Abel and Polly's son Thomas Edwards, b. 9-23-1774, married Betsy Ervin. Their son Joshua Potts Edwards was horn 3-18-1818 in Washington Co., Tenn. Joshua married Betsy Elizabeth Murray. They are the parents of William Murray Edwards. Joshua was a preacher and teacher.
Joshua first married Asenath Hatcher and they lived near Jonesboro, Tenn. They had three children; Sarah, Thomas and
Matilda (b.4-2-1841, d.12-27-1926). Asenath died when Matilda was 10 weeks old and she was raised by the Hatcher family. Joshua then married Betsy Elizabeth Murray of Flagpond, Tenn. While they lived in Tennessee they had two daughters, Rebecca Emaline and Nancy. In 1849 Joshua and Elizabeth moved to Cherokee Co., N. C. which later became Clay Co. They brought 2 of Joshua's children by his first marriage; Sarah and Thomas. Five more children were born in Clay and Cherokee Co.; Mary, Samuel Miller, William Murray, Andrew and Josephine. When the Civil War broke out, Thomas joined the Confederate Army. He died 7-2-1863 of complications from the measles. Sarah returned to Tennessee and little is known of her after this.
In 1866, Joshua and Elizabeth moved to Graham County. Here Joshua Columbus was born 5-23-1867. They moved to Stecoah where Joshua taught school. Here Joseph Monroe was born 2-3-1870. Joshua died 7-30-1885. Elizabeth died 15 years Iater. They are buried in the John M. Crisp cemetery at Stecoah, N.C.
