Pio was the son of Francesco and Marianna Piacentini.

Pio Piacentin trained in the Academy of St. Luke. His works include the Palazzo delle Esposizioni, located at Via Nazionale, 194 Rome, the Rinascente palace, on the corner of Via Roma and Largo Carlo Felice, the monumental entrance to Villa Sciarra, Palazzo Piacentini. This was finished after his death, in 1932.

The Palazzo delle Esposizioni was built in 1878-1882 and opened in 1883. As an important exhibition center, due to a danger of collapse in 1986, it has been radically restored, and a new system of illumination has been installed. The palace was reopened to public in 1990. The Palazzo delle Esposizioni is the largest multidisciplinary exhibition center in Rome's downtown.

Piacentini also directed the construction works of the Victor Emmanuel II Monument, with Manfredo Manfredi and Gaetano Koch.

The son of Pio Piacentini was:
1. Marcello Piacentini (1881-1969)
