The Toledo Chronicle
June 28, 1928

"Noah P. Steveson was born in Franklin county, Pennsylvania, April 4, 1835, and died at his home at Marshalltown June 14. Although Mr. Steveson has made his home at Marshalltown the last seventeen years he was a resident of Tama county for fifty-four years.

In 1861 he enlisted in Company C, Tenth Iowa Infantry, and served throughout the war.

Mr. Steveson was married to Mary V. Donaldson June 28, 1864, at Tama. They were the parents of eleven children, all of whom lived to maturity. One daughter, Lula R. Babb, died at Montour in 1900, and the second daughter, Lillie L. Sells, died at Gowrie in 1926.

Seven sons and two daughters survive: Thomas F. who lives near Garwin; Jesse N. and Harry W., of Denver, Colorado; Arden Roy, of Ogden Utah; Jay L. and Julius N., near Marshalltown; Mrs. P.O. Crawford, near Toledo, and Mrs. J.P. Lorensen, of Marshalltown. The latter daughter has cared for her father for the last eight years and was the only one with him at the time of his death.

Mr. and Mrs. Steveson lived on a farm south of Garwin and there all of their children grew to manhood and womanhood. The youngest son, Arden Roy, was 19 years of age at the time of his mother's death in 1906.

In 1909 Mr. Steveson was married to Mrs. Kate Shugart, of Elberon. They made their home at Chelsea for about three years, later moving to Marshalltown, where she died. He was married the third time to Mrs. Nancy Hostetter, who also died. Since her death he has made his home with his daughter, Mrs. J.P. Lorenson, at Marshalltown.

The funeral services were held at Pursel's funeral home at Marshalltown June 17, 1928, at 2 o'clock. Six grandsons acted as pallbearers. Burial was in the Turner cemetery, south of Garwin, by the side of his first wife.

Besides the immediate family Mr. Steveson is survived by fifty-one grandchildren, thirty great grandchildren, and two great great grandchildren. With the exception of the three sons who live in the west, the children were all present at the funeral."
