Two Bethany College students were injured, one fatally, in a one-car accident in north-central Kansas late Friday night.
The Saline County Sheriff's Office said the driver of the car, Tregg Merrigan, 18, of Sioux City, Iowa, suffered severe head injuries and died about an hour after the accident. Injured was Craig Kirscht, 19, of Aurora, Colo.
Deputies said witnesses reported the car was traveling at a high rate of speed on U.S. 81 near Bridgeport near the McPhearson-Saline county line. They said the car apparently hit gravel on a curve, skidded and overturned several times. Both men were thrown from the car.
