Mr. F.A. Coffin, among the first settlers of this section, died at his home in Chatfield about 2 o'clock last Tuesday afternoon. Notwithstanding his age, his serious illness was only of a few days duration. The immediate cause of his death was rheumatism which reached his heart. The deceased came here in 1854 and settled upon a farm in Elmira about a mile from the city. He remained upon the farm until about ten years ago, when he came to Chatfield to reside. He always took an interest in public affairs and held office in his town during nearly the whole term of his active life. He was the father of eight children, three sons and five daughters. His sons, three of his daughters and his wife survive him.
