SAN ANTONIO, Tex. — Randy Sanders, 15, Concordia, Kas., died Saturday morning of burns suffered a week ago in an explosion at his father's Concordia, Kas., service station. Randy, his father, William, 39, and another brother, Donald, 14, have been at the Brooke Army Medical Center since Monday when all were admitted in critical condition with burns from the March 2 explosion. Randy died at 4:15 am Saturday, succumbing to burns which covered 78 percent of his body.
William Sanders and Donald remain in critical condition in the intensive care unit of the Institute for Surgical Research, the burns unit at Brooke. The father is burned over 77 1/2 percent of his body, and Donald over 50 percent of his body. Randy's mother, Mrs. Rita Sanders, is in San Antonio.
Randall L. Sanders was born Oct. 28, 1957, in Seneca, Kas., and had lived in Concordia about 8 years.
He was a member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Roman Catholic Church, Concordia. He also was an Eagle Scout and senior patrol leader with Concordia's Troop 32. He was a sophomore at Concordia High School.
Surviving are his parents, brother and 2 sisters, Janet and Michelle, all of the home, and his grandparents Mr. and Mrs. Albert Collette, Concordia, and Mrs. Joe Sanders, Marysville.
The funeral will be announced by the Chaput funeral home, Concordia.
