Russell Keith Layton Sr., 64, died suddenly on Monday, June 4, 2012, at his second home in the Poconos, Pa. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a memorial service on Saturday, June 16, at 11:30 a.m. at Mount Olivet Cemetery, 23 Cottage Place, Bloomfield, NJ, 973-748-8384. Mr. Layton was a resident of Bloomfield, NJ, and was a longtime employee of the Township of Bloomfield, working in community development and inspections. After retiring from the township, he began a second career as a marine superintendent at Ports America in Newark, NJ. Mr. Layton was a proud veteran of the Vietnam War, having been an aircraft maintenance crewman in the U.S. Army and was recognized as historian of the 128th AHC Tomahawk Division.

Mr. Layton is survived by his wife, Pamela, and three sons, Russell Layton, Joseph Layton, and Taylor Tallscott. He also leaves behind ex-wife and friend, Mary Beth Layton (nee Mergelsberg); daughter-in-law, Lee Ann Layton; two grandchildren, Owen and Grace Layton; a sister, Constance Bradley; brother, Stephen Layton, and many other relatives and friends. Memorial contributions may be sent to the donor's charity of choice.
