Mrs. Mary Potter, Resident Until '46, Dies in California
Funeral services were held at a mortuary in Coalinga, Calif., for Mrs. Mary Potter, a life-long resident of the Nashua-Republic area until moving to California in 1946.
Mary Ann Castor was born nine miles east of Nashua & two miles north of Republic, Sept. 10, 1864. She resided in this area until she & her husband, Hamon O. Potter, moved to Coalinga to be near their daughters.
She passed away at her home in Coalinga Sept. 29, at 11:30 a.m. She was preceded in death by her husbnad, who died in December, 1950, after 65 years of married life.
She is also survived by 4 daughters; Gladys, Mrs. Dee Petty, and Marge, Mrs. W.K. Kout, both of Coalinga; Fannie, Mrs. Howard Russell, San Francisco; and Faye, Mrs. John Eckstein, of Ripon, Wis.
Mrs. Potter was one of nine children & three of the nine survive her. They are a sister, Ida, Mrs. Chambers of New Hampton; a brother, Charles, of New Hampton; and another brother, Grant, of Chicago.
Funeral services on Oct. 1 were conducted by Remana Macon, C.S., First Church of Christ, Scientist. Grandsons & friends were pallbearers. Interment was in Grangeville Cemetery.
A note from Mrs. Petty, says, in part, "It is needless to tell you how much we miss her, but her suffering is over. She looked so beautiful & peaceful, so we must not wish her back here where she was no longer happy without our father, and unable to do the work in her home."
