JAS. BLAKEMORE CALLED BY DEATH

Heart Attack is Fatal for Past President of Local Aerie of Eagles

James Bentley Blakemore, 46, immediate past president of Bakersield Aerie of Eagles, No. 93, and for nine years a resident of this city, died early Sunday morning at his home, 801 V. street, following a sudden heart attack.

Mr. and Mrs. Blakemore were the owners of the Sip-and-Bite restaurant on Chester avenue. A native of the San Joaquin valley, born at Visalia, Mr. Blakemore had resided in California the major portion of his life. Prior to coming to this city nine years ago, he resided in San Francisco for many years.

During his years here, Mr. Blakemore was continuously active in the Eagles lodge, and in 1927 was elected as president of the local aerie. Last year he was appointed a delegate to the national convention at Columbus, Ohio.

In addition to his widow, Mrs. Teresa Blakemore, he is survived by two sisters, Mrs. W. W. Harris of Fresno and Mrs. Belle Bone of Dinuba, and a brother, Walter Blakemore of Fresno county.

Funeral rites will be conducted by the local Aerie of Eagles at 10 o'clock Tuesday morning at Flickinger chapel. The remains will be entombed in the mausoleum at Union cemetery.

NOTEs:

He was married to Anna Theresa "Tessie" O'Sullivan. She was born April 23, 1885 and died December 6, 1957 in San Francisco. There were no children.

The sisters mentioned were Matilda Isabelle (Blakemore) Boone - married to James Thomas Boone, and Nellie Lucy (Blakemore) Harris - married to William Wesley Harris. His surviving brother was Walter Jordan Blakemore. Two other brothers and two sisters died in a diptheria epidemic in 1882/83.
I read the comments from someone else about James B. Blakemore and did a little research on him and found that he was married to
Anna Tessie Sullivan B. 23 Apr. 1885 D. 6 Dec. 1957 (SFO).
In my research the only thing which could have possibly linked James to Benicia was that on his WW I draft record it indicated that he was working for a company based in Benicia in 1917 but his wife was located in SFO. Further info shows in 1920 he's in San Francisco but moves to Bakersfield in the late 20's and is located there as late as 1944. Suspect that after James passed in the 40's, his wife moved back to SFO near her family. hope this is of some help.
