Mildred (Sulliman) Alvord, 90, of Manchester, widow of Wesley P. Alvord, passed away Tuesday (November 8, 2011) at her home. A New Britain native, she lived in Manchester since 1983. A graduate of New Britain High School, Class of 1940, Mildred worked in the Publications Department at Pratt & Whitney Aircraft, East Hartford for 15 years, retiring in 1974. She was a member of Center Congregational Church in Manchester and the Questers Antique Group.
Surviving is her son, Mark W. Alvord of Manchester; a brother, Samuel Sulliman and his wife Lillian in PA; two sisters, Ruth Jones of Meriden and Elaine Koelsch and her husband John of Fort Pierce, FL; several nieces and nephews. Midlred was predeceased by two brothers, George Sulliman, who was killed in action during the Korean Conflict, and Robert Sulliman.
A Memorial Service will be held Tuesday (November 15) 1 p.m. at Center Congregational Church, 11 Center Street, Manchester, CT 06040 with a reception to follow. There are no calling hours. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery, New Britain. Donations may be made to the Center Congregational Church Memorial Fund.
