Youngest of six children of William and Lillian Truesdell Roetzel, he married Roslyn Janssen of Buckley on Oct. 24, 1937 in Terre Haute, IN. She died Jan 25, 1997. His parents, a brother, Floyd and four sisters: Myrtle Roetzel, Mae Thackeray, Jessie Herald, Vera Eder and a son in law, Frank Ferraiolo, also died before him.
Surviving are three daughters and four grandchildren.
Roetzel worked worked for Hicks Gas and then the family owned and operated Roetzel's Grocery in Roberts from 1946-1961. He worked for eight years for the State Highway Dept in Ford Co. While maintaining a residence in Roberts, William and Roslyn moved to Des Plaines where he managed Ellinwood Medical Building for 10 years. They moved back to Roberts where he was again employed by Hicks Oil Company until he retired in 1993.
Roetzel had been an active member of St. Paul's Lutheran church of Roberts. At one time he had volunteered to deliver Peace Meals in Roberts as a member of Roberts Community club.
Harold was involved for many years in Ford Co. Democratic politics and took great pride in helping his son-in-law, Glenn Poshard, campaign for governor of Illinois.
