A. Norman LaSalle, 85, of West Shore Road and Col. John Gardner Road in Bonnet Shores, Narragansett, an attorney with offices in Providence and Warwick since 1934, died yesterday at Kent County Memorial Hospital. He was the husband of the late Hope G (Conroy) LaSalle.
Born in Pawtucket, a son of the late Peter A. and Mabel I. (Rock) LaSalle, he had lived in Warwick since 1936 and was a summer resident of Bonnet Shores.
Mr LaSalle was a 1929 graduate of the Rhode Island College of Pharmacy, & Allied Sciences, now the University of Rhode Island. He was a 1933 graduate of Northeastern University School of Law, He recieved an honorary Ph.D. from the Rhode Island College of Pharmacy, where he taught juriprudence from 1930-1934.
He was chief of the state Division of Narcotic Drugs and pharmacies from 1935-1939. He served as clerk of the Fourth District Court, and he was appointed legal counsel to the state Department of Health in 1941. He was an assistant attorney general for Rhode Island for seven years during the 1940s. During the 1960s and 1970s he was probate judge for the City of Warwick for 18 years.
He was a memberof the Rhode Island Bar Association since 1934, and the Massachusetts Bar since 1939. He was a former member of the Rhode Island Democratic State Committee, and the Warwick Democratic City Committee, of which he was chairman from 1940-1946. He was a member and a past president of the Kent Coutny Bar Association. In 1936 he served as a presidential elector, and was a delegate to the Rhode Island State Constitutional Convention in the 1960s.
He was a member of the Rhode Island Pharmaeutical Association, and a communicant of St. Rose of Lima Churcch.
He leaves a son, Peter N LaSalle of Austin, Texas, a professor of English at the University of Texas; three daughters, Glenna H Keene of Wayne Pa., Norma LaSalle of Exeter, a professor of history at the Community College of Rhode Island, and Faith A. LaSalle of Warwick, an attorney with Zizik, LaSalle & Powers in Providence, and four grandchildren.
The funeral will be held Monday at 9 a.m. from the Peter J. Barrett Funeral Home, 1328 Warwick Ave., with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 at St Rose Lima Church, Main Avenue. Burial will be in St. Ann Cemetery, Cranston.
