Mrs. Mary Fitzpatrick McCarty died at her home in Walnut at 5 o'clock Wednesday morning, Jan. 22, after being bedfast for several days. She had been in failing health for some time, She had been a resident of this vicinity for 70 years.
The daughter of Patrick and Mary Fitzpatrick, she was born May 14, 1850, in Pittaburgh, Ohio. She was united in marriage to Michael McCarty in Ohio. They came to to the Walnut vicinity in 1871, settling on a farm southeast of here they resided until the death of Mr. McCarty October 12, 1900. Since then she has resided in Walnut.
She is survived by five children, Mrs. Hester Armstrong of Lewis; Mrs. Grace Ury and Mrs. Anna Waters of Wiota; Jess McCarty of Walnut and Raymond McCarty who made his home with his mother and cared for her.
Five children preceded her in death, three in infancy. Thomas died Sept. 1, 1900, and Mrs. Agnes Miller on June 12, 1940. She is also survived by sixteen grandchildren and ten great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Friday morning at 9:30 o'clock at St. Patrick's Church in Walnut, with Father Cashman of Avoca officiating. The body will lie in state at the family home until the funeral hour. Burial will be in the Walnut Catholic Cemetery.
