Barbara Lipe was a daughter of Johan Andreas (John Andrew) Wentz (c.1729-1809) and his wife Catherine "Caty" (d. circa 1826). She was born sometime in the 1760s, in Mecklenburg County, North Carolina.
Barbara married Leonard Lipe (1763-1848), a Soldier of the Revolution, around 1785. They had at least seven children:

2. Jonas Lipe (9 June 1790-26 March 1869, Perry Co., Ill., m. Esther Lipe on 4 August 1809, she a daughter of his uncle, Jonas Lipe.

4. Barbara Lipe (16 Nov. 1795-26 Feb. 1880) m. Daniel M. Dry, on 21 March 1814. Second married David H. Mead 19 Jan. 1841.

Barbara and Leonard Lipe left North Carolina and went to Illinois. He died in April 1848, and she died in October of the next year. Barbara is listed on the is listed on the Fed. Mortality schedule of 1850, as Barbary Lipe, having died in Oct. 1849, age 83, having been sick for 2 days with "cont. chills."
