Susan Abigail Allen Chamberlain, "Abby" age 57 years old and lived in Mountain View, Wyoming at the time of her passing. Abby died on January 14, 2012 at her home following a long battle with cancer. Abby was born on July 4, 1954 in Hobbs, New Mexico. Her parents were U.B. "Hap" and Melba Allen. Her childhood was spent in New Mexico where she attended school in Capitan, New Mexico. Abby was a cheerleader and involved in extra-curricular activities.
Abby married Dare Chamberlain on September 2, 1978 at Fort Stanton, New Mexico. After Dare and Abby moved to Mountain View, they became involved in activities that their boys were participating in. Wrestling took up their evenings and week-ends as they traveled all over Wyoming and later ventured oversees. Abby continued with the USA Wrestling program after Aaron and Brian graduated. She was involved on the local, state and national levels. She had a very special rapport with each coach, wrestler, ref and parent. Abby was with the Wrestling Association for thirty some odd years. She was an assistant to many coaches and trained countless numbers of volunteers to make each and every meet successful. As the Registration Chairman for the USA wrestling Abby dedicated endless hours made special arrangements for each and every wrestler and was even known to work tirelessly to make sure the paper work was in place so that each child would be eligible to participate. Abby insisted that everyone should be eligible to participate. In 1991, Abby received The Award of excellence for the Wyoming Governors' Award. This was truly an honor that touched her deeply. In 1996 Abby received the Andy Williams Memorial Award for her outstanding leadership abilities.
She was dedicated to the Little League Baseball and Softball programs. She also put her heart and soul into making these programs triumphant and successful. She donated twenty plus years to the Bridger Valley Baseball programs. She was involved with scoring, announcing, scheduling, and training people to take over the program.
Abby and Dare open their home annually to the IPSSSDR mushers and participate by finding temporary homes for the mushers. She bonded with the families and looked forward to sharing these experiences.
Abby was a member of Saint Helen's Catholic Church in Fort Bridger, Wyoming. She enjoyed fellowship and friendships with other parishioners.
Abby was well known for her terrific communication skills and had mastered sign language. She was practicing and improving her skills on a daily basis. Abby was a people magnet and surrounded herself with people and shared their life experiences. She was a favorite at the Huntsman Cancer Hospital in SLC. She was known on a first name basis and was seen running her fingers through some beautiful blond curls of one of the handsome, young male valet parking attendant.
Abby was preceded in death by, her father U.B. "Hap" Allen, her mother Melba Allen and one sister Joy B Hirrill and one brother in law Jack Hirrill.
Abby had two sons; Richard Aaron Chamberlain was born on Oct 1, 1974 and is married to Jessica Coon. Brian Allen Chamberlain was born on June 27, 1976 and is married to Wendee Banks.
Abby was the proud grandmother of Arora Jade Chamberlain, Izail Chamberlain, and Liv Chamberlain. Abby was dedicated in participating in the lives of her grandchildren and was a champion in watching them grow and mature.
Melba Taff (Charles) of Jal, New Mexico is her surviving sister. Abby was also survived by nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws and countless friends.
Services will be held Thursday, January 19, 2012 at Saint Helen's Catholic Church in Fort Bridger, WY. Rosary will start at 9:15 A.M. with celebration of life mass following. Crandall Funeral home is in charge of the arrangements.
We want to express our appreciation and sincere gratitude for all in attendance. The family of Abby Chamberlain has been overwhelmed with the outpouring of love expressed for our family.
