Wife of Major James Tate

Mother of Elizabeth Tate Bost

Daughter of John and Mary Lockhart Smith

After the death of James Tate, Elizabeth settled in Henderson County, Tennessee with her son-in-law and daughter, Marcus and Elizabeth Tate Bost.

Smith Family History

George Washington Smith,Jr. gave a history of the Smith family to his daughter-in-law (wife of Myron).

"The nationality of the Smiths was Scotch Irish. They were primitive Baptists.

John Smith came to Decatur County in 1820, settled on Panther Creek-Flat Creek. 600 acres of land. Moved from Buncombe North Carolina. His wife was Mary Lockhart. They moved to Concord Settlement. John and Mary Smith had 3 girls, Prudie, Bettie, Polly. Six boys- Joe*, Jake*, Jim, Jackson, John and Washington." (*he did not give additional information on these two sons)

(He listed the children and their families. I am only listing whom they married).

"Prudie married Jim Moreland and lived in Decaturville, Tenn

Bettie married Major Tate. They lived in Warren County.

Polly married a Rogers.

Jim Smith married Fannie Moreland in Decatur Co., and moved to Henderson.

Jackson Smith married Malinda of Henderson County.

John Smith married Emiline Fuller of Henderson County.(Lexington Cemetery #138416417 and #138416363. I have not found anything that proves the John A. Smith linked to John and Mary Lockhart Smith on Find A. Grave is correct)

Washington Smith married Jane White of Decatur."
