Commander Jacobs was living in Mt. Vernon, WA when he entered the service and was a member of Heavy Photographic Squadron 62 U.S. Navy.

On August 25, 1967, he was the pilot of a Douglas Skywarrior Attack Aircraft (RA-3B) over North Vietnam when contact was lost and the aircraft crashed into the sea.

His remains were never recovered.

His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
