Arthur D. Smitley, who served as a mailman in the Uniontown Post Office for 13 years, died yesterday. The 77-year-old Smitley lived on Lemon St. in Uniontown.
He was a native of Georges Twp. and was a life member of the Third Presbyterian Church. He was also a member of the John Knox Bible Class and American Legion Post 51. A graduate of Uniontown High School and Ohio Northern University, Smitley was also a member of the Rural Mail Carriers Assn.
He is survived by his wife, Ruth M. Sibert Smitley, and his son, William R. Smitley of Uniontown.
His daughter, Cora Virginia Smitley Smith died in 1966 and seven brothers and two sisters also previously died. They are Edward, Harry, Thomas, James, William, Russell, John, Harriet Moore and Ann McMechen.
Friends will be received from 7 p.m. until 9 p.m. tomorrow and from 3 p.m. until 5 p.m. and from 7 p.m. until 9 p.m. Saturday in the Oats-McGee Funeral Home in Uniontown.
Additional viewing will be Sunday from 1 p.m. until the hour of service 2 p.m. in the Third Presbyterian Church. Burial will be in Sylvan Heights Bible Section. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Fayette County Heart Assn.
