| Birth: | Dec. 21, 1850 | | Death: | Feb. 20, 1862 | He was the third son of President Abraham and Mary Lincoln. The boy was a favorite of his father and often accompanied him while executing Presidential duties around Washington. Willie became ill with Typhoid Fever shortly after reaching his eleventh birthday which took his life. Dr. Charles Brown, perfector of the technique of embalming, was called to the White house and prepared the remains. The young boy lay in state in the Green Room which adjoins the East Room where a private service was conducted by the pastor of The Washington New York Avenue Presbyterian Church. He was buried in Oak Hill Cemetery in Georgetown. The Lincoln's were so pleased by the preservation achieved by Dr. Brown that he was disinterred twice so that they could again view his remains. After the assassination of the President, Willie's casket was exhumed and the remains were placed on the Lincoln Funeral Train. Willie again accompanied his father, this time back to Springfield, Illinois to be placed in the tomb at Oakridge Cemetery.
