For thirteen seasons (1981 to 1994), he played at the forward position in the National Basketball Association with the Chicago Bulls, New Jersey Nets, Los Angeles Lakers, Denver Nuggets, Detroit Pistons, Milwaukee Bucks and Philadelphia 76ers. After establishing himself as a standout player while attending Mansfield High School (Louisiana), he played collegiate basketball at the University of Notre Dame. His years with the Fighting Irish under coach Digger Phelps saw him emerge as a key contributor to Notre Dame's clinching of four NCAA berths. He produced double-figures in scoring during his last three years at the school. Selected by Chicago in the 1st round (6th overall pick) of the 1981 NBA Draft, Woolridge yielded a career-high 1,767 points with the Bulls during the 1984-1985 season, while sharing the court with rookie-later-superstar Michael Jordan. He experienced playing in the NBA Finals (1988-1989) while with the Lakers. In 851 regular season games, he compiled 13,623 points with 3,696 total rebounds. Following his playing career, he served as coach of the Los Angeles Sparks of the WNBA. In addition, he ran a Houston-area basketball camp. He was inducted into the Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame in 2010 He died after a lengthy battle with a chronic heart condition. (bio by: C.S.)
