Mr. Richard Jack Edenfield Retired Chief of Inspectors

Mr. Richard "Dick" Edenfield, 89, entered into rest on Sunday, March 2, 2008 at the residence of his daughter, in Rockville, MD.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 8, 2008 at 3:30 PM in Platt's Crawford Avenue Chapel with the Rev. Sherrell Dunn officiating. Interment will be private, at Westover Memorial Park.

Mr. Edenfield was a life-long resident of Augusta, Georgia. Richard was a veteran of World War II, serving in the army overseas for the entire conflict. Upon returning home, he opened his own business Edenfield Electric Company in Augusta. He subsequently went to work for the City of Augusta as Chief Electrical Inspector, later becoming Chief of Inspectors for the Department of Inspectors, a position which he held approximately 32 years. After retiring, he continued to work as a consultant on design and installation of street lighting and other special projects for the City for another 10 years. Richard was an active member of Underwriters Laboratories for 30 years, serving as a voting member of ULL and a distinguished member of the Electrical Council. He also belonged to the International Association of Electrical Inspectors for 50 years, serving as President of the Southern Section. Richard was a member of Curtis Baptist Church for many years and also a member of Webb Masonic Lodge #166 for 45 years. He served on numerous councils and boards throughout his lifetime. Richard was a kind outgoing individual who never met a stranger. He loved people, and his many friends will miss him.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years Geraldine Wood Edenfield and his parents Homer and Essie Edenfield.

Survivors include his two daughters, Carole Lhuillier and her husband Bob of Atlanta, Georgia and Joyce Maguire and her husband John of Rockville, Maryland, and a son, Richard Edenfield, Jr. of Atlanta, Georgia. His grandchildren include Drew Carlyle, Scott Carlyle, Brian Maguire, Jenna Wright, Melissa Cheatham and Mark Edenfield and two great- granddaughters.

The family will receive friends on Saturday, March 8, 2008 from 2 pm to 3:30 pm at the funeral home.

His pallbearers will be his grandsons and grandsons-in-law
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his honor, to Dick Edenfield Scholarship Endowment at Augusta Technical School, 3200 Augusta Tech Drive, Augusta, GA 30906.
