Engaged as a farmer

Enlisted 26 October 1872 in Troy, New York into the 7th U.S. Cavalry. At the Battle of the Little Big Horn he was a private in Thomas McDougall's Company B. Company B was in charge of the pack train, so well behind the other companies. They arrived at what is now known as Reno Hill, where Reno, Benteen and Weir were fighting. They joined the battle at this time with the much needed ammuntion. Sager would have fought here until the battle was over.
