On Wednesday, May 30, 2012, Murl passed away at Chandler Nursing Center after many years of battling pulmonary fibrosis.
Murl was born on June 22, 1927, in a little blue house a few miles south of Chandler. She was the only daughter of Minor and Suda Beard.
In July of 1946, Murl married John Billy Stokes of Brownsboro. They were blessed with more than 65 years of marriage before Billy passed away on Dec. 16, 2011. Throughout their years together, Murl kept their bags packed as they traveled for hunting trips, business meetings and sightseeing. In the last few years as health issues limited them, they faithfully watched their Dallas Mavericks and Texas Rangers and family knew not to visit or call during the game.
Mrs. Stokes was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.
She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; and brothers, Tom, Pat and Bruce Beard.
The family wishes to recognize the nurses and doctors of Mother Frances Hospital for their compassionate care during many hospital stays the last six years. Also to recognize the staff of Chandler Nursing Center for their loving and kind care.
Memorials may be made to Kerens First Baptist Church Building Fund or the charity of your choice.
