She was born in Spur, Texas, to Myra and Leslie Roberts and grew up there and in Roseburg, Oregon. She graduated from North Texas University in Denton. She married Andrew H. King of Atlanta, where they raised their three sons. After her children were grown, she earned a master of librarianship degree from Emory University and worked as a librarian and supervisor of the Media Processing Center with Atlanta Public Schools. After Col. King's retirement, they relocated to Monticello, Georgia, where they lovingly restored the historic farmhouse they had purchased and she worked as high school librarian in Putnam and Jasper Counties. Mrs. King was an avid reader and music lover and belonged to the Georgia Library Association, Alpha Psi Chapter of the Delta Kappa Gamma Society International, and Concerto Unit of the Atlanta Symphony Associates. She was preceded in death by her husband and oldest son, Dr. Anthony H. King.
