| Birth: | Sep. 18, 1828 | | Death: | Feb. 24, 1898 |  Roman Catholic Bishop. Sixth bishop and first archbishop of Kingston, in Ontario. A native of Dungarvan, county of Waterford in Ireland, he was ordained priest on September 20, 1851. He was appointed professor of theology and Holy Scripture at the St.John College, in Waterford, then he became its superior. After that, he served as pastor of his native parish. He was elected officially bishop of Kingston and was ordained in that capacity in Rome, on November 21, 1880. Once established, he devoted himself with zeal to all kind of works such as the building of churches and of convents, the erection of parishes, the reopening on a new site of the Regiopolis College. On July 28, 1889, when Kingston was elevated to metropolitan see, he became its archbishop. He died in his episcopal city. (bio by: Guy Gagnon)
