Bishop Rémi Gaulin
Birth: Jun. 30, 1787
Death: May 8, 1857

Religious Leader. Coadjutor, second bishop of Kingston, in Ontario. A native of the city of Québec, he studied at the Minor Seminary in hos hometown and in Nicolet. He was ordained priest on October 13, 1811. Named pastor of Saint-Raphaël of Kingston until 1815, he became successively missionary in Acadia, from 1815 to 1822, then pastor of Saint-Luc-sur-Richelieu, in 1825, of L'Assomption, in 1828, of Saint-Jean-d'Iberville, in 1831, of Sainte-Scholastique, in 1832 and of Sault-au-Récollet, in 1833. In May 1833, he was elected titular bishop of Tabraca and was named coadjutor of Kingston. He was ordained bishop in Montréal, on October 20, 1833. On January 14, 1840, he took officially his episcopal see which he ruled until 1845 and then passed it to his coadjutor, Bishop Phelan. Struck with paralysis, he took again the parish of L'Assomption, from 1845 to 1849 and retired later in Sainte-Philomène of Châteauguay where he died.
