William James Hager is the son of Daniel Marion Hager, Sr and Violet Vertress Porter. He married Phoebe Ann Roach on March 16, 1853 in Johnson County, Kentucky.

They were the parents of 4 children:

Mary Frances "Fannie" Hager married Darius M Atkinson

Samuel Wilber Hager married Elizabeth "Bessie" Woods White

Simeon Edgar Hager never married

Daniel Warren Hager died after 1940, last surviving member of his family.

William J. Hager, father of State Treasurer Samuel W. Hager, died Sunday at his home in Saylersville of pneumonia. He was seventy-six years of age and one of the best known citizens in his section of the state.
