Leota Bell (Hunt) Baker, 98, of Vermilion, Ohio, formerly of Tekonsha, Michigan, passed away Friday, July 13, 2012 at Kingston of Vermilion. She was born December 22, 1913 in Tekonsha to George and Hazel (Abel) Hunt. She married Cecil Baker July 3, 1933 in Angola, Indiana.
Leota was a life resident of Tekonsha. She was a member and a former Deacon of the First Baptist Church. She served on the social committee and the Martha Circle. Leota enjoyed sewing, crocheting, embroidery and tatting and growing african violets. She had even made the cheerleaders their uniforms for Tekonsha High School in the late 1940's. She like to travel and visited Northern MI, Nashville, TN, Branson, MO and Houston, TX.
Leota was a homemaker and she had cleaned homes for some of her friends. In April of 2010 she moved to Ohio to live with her son Thomas and wife Jane. In November 2010 she became a resident of Kingston of Vermilion.
She is survived by her daughter Alice Stamp, daughter-in-laws Jane Baker and Shirlee Baker, 2 sister-in-laws Julia Curry and Jean Baker, 10 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren, 7 great great grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews.
Leota was preceded in death by her husband, Cecil, her parents, 2 sons; LeRoy and Thomas, a sister Fern Smith and a grandson Walt Waffle.
Visitation for Leota Baker was Wednesday, July 18, 1012 from 2:00 to 4:00 and 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Tekonsha Baptist Church. Funeral Service was held Thursday, July 19, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at th Tekonsha Baptist Church with Rev. John Cail officiating.
Interment is at Riverside Cemetery in Tekonsha.
Memorial contributions may be made to the First Baptist Church in Tekonsha.
