A native of Boston, Massachusetts, Cazale studied drama at Oberlin College in Boston, Massachusetts. Cazale, who was once engaged to actress Meryl Streep, also appeared in the films, "The Conversation" (1974), "Dog Day Afternoon" (1975), and "The Deer Hunter" (1978). After his death in March 1978 from bone marrow cancer Cazale was featured in the other Godfather films, "The Godfather: Part III" (1990), and "The Godfather Saga" (1992), using archival footage but was uncredited in the cast.
