Captain in Hampton's Legion Cavalry Battalion, 4th South Carolina Cavalry Regiment, Rutledge Division, Co. D & E, St. James Mounted Riflemen in the Civil War. His unit fought at Black River, Combahee River, The Wilderness, Spotsylvania Courthouse, North Anna, Haw's Shop, Cold Harbor, and the seige of Petersburg. His unit surrendered on April 25, 1865 at Durham Station, North Carolina, as part of the forces under General Joseph E. Johnston. Son of Charles Cotesworth Pinckney & Phoebe Elliott. His grandfather, Thomas Pinckney, was the Governor of South Carolina (1750-1828) and Ambassador to England. He is buried with his second wife, Camilla Scott, with whom he had one daugther, Josephine, who is buried in the same plot. His first wife was Mary Stewart of Henrico Co., VA. They had six children together. He was a farmer after the war.
