Birth: Jan. 3, 1919
Canyon County
Idaho, USA
Death: May 26, 2012

Mildred Bray Hower was born January 3, 1919, to H. Burkett (Senior) and Johnnie Day Bray on the old family farm near Wilder, Idaho.

With her younger sister Louise, she attended Southside Elementary School and graduated in 1938 from Nampa High School. The two sisters attended Normal School in Lewiston, Idaho and received teaching certificates. They lived together and began teaching in Emmett, Idaho. Although Louise soon found she preferred another line of work, Mildred was a born teacher.

After meeting (in a Red Cross first aid class) and marrying (at her parent's home) Loyal Hower, she began her married life in the remote mining community of Stibnite, Idaho, serving as the school's principal, as well as teaching.

However, following the birth of her first child, she and Loyal began a dairy farm on land adjacent to her parents. Serving as the record keeper in a position that would now be referred to as the "chief financial officer," Mildred and Loyal developed a Grade A dairy and joined the Sun-Ray Dairy Co-op in the 1960s.

In between growing the dairy, serving as a substitute teacher, and volunteering as a teacher at the migrant labor camp, Mildred raised two daughters (Linda and Jonne) and a son (Linn).

Following their retirement in 1979, Mildred and Loyal traveled throughout Idaho and the West, Alaska, and Canada. They were especially fond of Big Creek, near Edwardsburg, Idaho, and eventually acquired land where they spent many happy summer days.

Mildred was preceded in death by husband, Loyal; sister, Louise; brothers, Hugh and Burkett Bray; and daughter Linda.

She is survived by her daughter, Jonne; son, Linn; daughter-in-law, Elisabeth Ridgeway; and grandchildren, Elise and Forrest Ridgeway.

At her request, no services will be held. Her family invites you to join us for coffee, cookies, and to remember her life, 2:00-4:00 pm, June 16, at Southside Community Church, Nampa, Idaho.
