My Dear Grandmother...Gaydon

If you were lucky enough to have Maud Gaydon for a Grandmother, you were lucky enough !!!

Maud was born to Henry Calhoun Gillespie and Josephine Texas Gillespie in Martin, GA. Franklin County > 1889.
Martin is now in Stevens County. Sister of: Cora, Baby Gillespie, Lou Gillespie, Zora Gillespie, Jones Onest Gillespie, and Mamie Gillespie Melton.
She married Spencer Lee Gaydon. 1905 in Hall County GA.
They met in the textile mill where they worked in Gainesville GA. They had the following children: Henry Devon Gaydon, Lois Leona Gaydon-Shetley, Barbara Arizone Gaydon-Montjoy, Jackson Claude Gaydon, William Furman Gaydon, Paul Wayman Gaydon, Robert Lee Gaydon, Jerriel Leonard Gaydon.
Around 1915 they moved from Gainesville Ga to Easley SC where many of Grandmother's Gillespie family lived. They attened Greer Memorial Baptist Church which was next to the Mill where she and Granddaddy worked. Their school aged children attended West End School and later Easley High. Her 4 younger children,(boys) were born while living in Easley.
She had 4 boys in WW2 and lost one son Robert in 1944. She nearly grieved herself to death. In fact I think her worry about her sons in the war and the loss of Robert contributed to her death.
She was such a caring Mother and Grandmother. I have so many wonderful memories of my childhood with my Grandmother. Because of her I have this life long love of glass. Beautiful crystal, color glass and cut glass. I have tons of it too. Some hers and a big collection I gathered. I remember so many things like picking blackberries and have many fun stories to tell, I have added to my website. I don't want the memories lost. She was a good southern cook. Was always baking something and cooking big Sunday dinners for family. I learned a lot about cooking just hanging out in the kitchen with her as a child. My Mama said one day recently that I cook just like my Grandmother and that was quite a compliment. We were very close and I miss her to this day. Looking forward to seeing her again and spending all eternity with her and the rest of my wonderful family.
