McGILL, Vivian Pearl - 91, Middleton, passed away Thursday, June 5, 2008, in Soldiers' Memorial Hospital, Middleton.

Born in Torbrook, Annapolis Co., on December 12, 1916, she was a daughter of the late Maynard and Agnes (Riley) Videto. She was a faithful member of Middleton Baptist Church and the Women's Club of that church for many years. She and her late husband jointly operated the family farm which included a greenhouse business. Vivian eagerly looked forward to spring, when they could plant the seeds and work in the gardens . She particularly enjoyed her roses which were always in full bloom in mid-July when they celebrated their anniversary. Vivian often felt that she was never closer to God than when she was in her gardens. Her interests included sewing (which she taught at night school for several years), music, playing her electric organ, gardening, knitting and other handicrafts. Over the years she knit hundreds of pairs of mittens for "Friendly Neighbours", an organization which assists needy families. She was a devoted wife, mother and a loyal friend to many. She was happiest when surrounded by her family, either at the farm or the family cottage at Zwicker Lake.

She is survived by her daughter, Carol (Ed) Merry, Halifax; sons, Jim (Colleen), Brooklyn, Annapolis County; Fred (Barb), Wilmot; grandchildren; Beth (Ian) McLaws, Middle Sackville; Alan (Debbie) Lees, New Glasgow; five great-grandchildren and one great great-grandchild. She was predeceased by her husband, George; daughter, Katherine; sisters, Carrie, Verna and Evelyn; brothers, Fred, Elwood, Howard, Everett, and George. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.

Visitation will be held 7-9 p.m. Sunday, June 8, in Middleton Funeral Home, 398 Main St. (902) 825-3448, where the funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Monday, June 9, Rev. George Mollins and Rev. Danny Smith officiating. Interment will be in Pine Grove Cemetery, Middleton. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Middleton Baptist Church, Pine Grove Cemetery, Middleton, or a charity of choice. A special thank you is extended to Sheila Marcotte, Dr. David MacKinnon and the staff at Soldiers' Memorial Hospital for the compassionate care and kindness over the past months.
