Leonard S. Abes, 91, of Butler died at 12:01 a.m. Friday in the Butler Memorial Hospital.

Born December 23, 1919, in Butler, he was the son of the late Louis Abes and Anna (Berkowitz) Abes.

Mr. Abes was the owner of the Leonard Abes Home Improvement Center in Butler in 1966.

He was a member of the Congregation B'nai Abraham where he was very active.

Mr. Abes was an avid golfer and a veteran of the US Army who served in WW II, in the South Pacific and European Theatres. He helped to liberate Duchau Concentration Camp.

Mr. Abes is survived by his wife, Gladys G. (Gluck) Abes, who he married on September 9, 1951; one daughter, of Pittsburgh; one son, of Woodbridge, VA; four grandchildren; one great-grandchild; one sister, of Palm Desert, CA; and also several nieces and nephews.

Friends of Leonard S. Abes, who died Friday, Feb. 18, 2011, will be received at the Thompson-Miller Funeral Home, 124 E. North St., Butler, on Sunday from noon to 1 p.m.

Funeral services will be Sunday at 1 p.m. at the funeral home.

Interment will follow at the B'nai Abraham Cemetery.
