She was best known for her role as 'Louise "Weezie" Jefferson' on the popular 1970s and 1980s television sitcom "The Jeffersons." An acclaimed actress on Broadway for over 30 years, she co-starred with Sherman Hemsley on the spin-off of the popular series "All in the Family," in which she also appeared. In 1981, she became the first African-American woman to receive an Emmy for Best Actress in a Comedy Series for her work on "The Jeffersons."
