Edward L. STANTON, 83, Athens, died at 8 a.m. Friday at Marion Veteran's Regional Hospital. He had been in failing health since Jan. 16.
Born near Denver, Miami County, to Edgar C. and Fannie BURGER STANTON, he married Margaret E. CUTSHAW Aug. 2, 1941 in Crown Point. She survives.
Mr. Stanton, an Athens resident for 53 years, coming from Rochester, retired in 1978 after 41 years at Erie-Lackawana Railroad. He served in the U.S. Navy as an aviation machinist mate in World War II. He was a member of the Brotherhood of Railway Trainmen, Fraternal Order of Eagles Lodge 852 for 48 years, where he was past president and trustee, Moose Lodge 1107, Forty and Eight, Lake Manitou Veterans of Foreign Wars and LeRoy Shelton American Legion Post 36 for 50 years.
Surviving with his wife, at home, are two daughters, Jane HOFFMAN and husband Rick, Rochester, Debra K. STANTON and husband George "Skip", Lexington, Ky.; one son, twin to Debra K., Edward J. STANTON and wife Paige, Raleigh, N.C.; five grandchildren, Jennifer RATNER and husband Al, Danielle MUSE and husband Eric, Aaron and Aarika STANTON, Zachary STANTON; one great-grandson, Landon MUSE; one sister, Caroline RHODES, Gas City; one brother, Charles [STANTON] and wife Jeanne, Bradenton, Fla.
Services were at 10 a.m. today at Foster & Good Funeral Home, Rochester, with Rev. Phil PRATT officiating. Burial was at Athens Cemetery. The American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars conducted military graveside rites.
