Sam was the son of Thomas and Sarah Louisa King Armitage of Madison County, Ohio and Berlin Heights, Ohio. He was an oil worker. He married Nettie Johnson on 6 April 1899 in Sugar Ridge, Wood County, and following her death in 1908, married Mary A. Grover Hopkins Streeter on 23 September 1916 in Wood County. She was divorced from Edward Hopkins whom she married in 1898 and the widow of Charles Streeter whom she married in 1911. Charles died in 1912.
A native of Wood County, Ray Armitage continued to make this city his home and was employed until recently in the oil fields in Cygnet, OH as a pumper. He leaves his wife, Nettie, a daughter, Mildred Leimgruber, Bowling Green, two brothers, Jesse, Bowling Green, Floyd, Haskins, two sisters, Mrs. Anna Critchfield, Bowling Green, and Elizabeth Armitage, Haskins."
