| Birth: | Feb. 8, 1828 | | Death: | Feb. 27, 1866 |  Civil War Confederate Brigadier General. He graduated from Columbia University, South Carolina, in 1846 and practiced law until the beginning of the Civil War. He raised the 1st Georgia Infantry, the Augusta Volunteer Battalion Confederate Militia and was appointed Colonel of the 5th Georgia Regiment in 1861. Promoted Brigadier General, he commanded a brigade in General Bragg's Corps at Shiloh and in August, 1864, took charge of the Department of Florida.
