Funeral services for Jesse H. Thornton, 73, of 1104 South Franklin street will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at the J.J. Moran Funeral Home where friends may call after 2 p.m. today. Burial will be in the Graceland cemetery.
Mr. Thornton, who operated the Thornton Bait Shop at the same address, was dead on arrival yesterday at St. Mary's hospital. He was born Oct. 14, 1888 in Frankfort, Indiana to Obediah and Nancy Jane Hall Thornton. He moved to Decatur in 1918 from Coultersville, Il. He married Minnie Eva Boone in St. Louis, Mo. Jan. 29, 1921.
Survivors include his wife, Minnie of Decatur, four sons: Richard, Robert, Kenneth and Gerald of Decatur, one daughter: Mrs. Bob (Betty) Phillips of LaSalle, two stepdaughters: Mrs. Stanley (Audrey) Champion of Trenton, Mich. and Mrs. Ernest (Mary) Freeman of Wingage, Mich. and a brother, Glenn of Illiopolis. He also leaves 36 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. One son, Ralph, preceded him in death.
