He was born March 19, 1838 [calculated from his age at death] in Perry County, the son of Nicholas & Susanna Jacobs. In 1860, he was a farmer living in Tuscarora Township, Perry County, and stood 5' 8" tall with light hair and blue eyes.
A Civil War veteran, he was drafted and mustered into federal service at Carlisle August 17, 1863, as a private with Co. K, 149th Pennsylvania Infantry, but died of fever on the way to the hospital.
