Monico Estrada, 89, a resident of the Forest Grove community died Tuesday evening, April 24, 2012 at Providence St. Vincents Medical Center in Portland, Oregon.
MONICO ESTRADA ACUŅA was born June 10, 1922 in Metates, Durango, Mexico, the son of the late Inocente Estrada and Flora Acuņa.
He was united in marriage to Maria Guadalupe Herrera on January 20, 1950, in Tascosa, Durango. Following their marriage they resided in the communities of Quila, Sinaloa; Obregon, Sonora; and California before moving to Oregon in 1974 where they have resided since.
Monico worked as a custodian at Portland Community College Sylvania Campus until his retirement in 1990.
He was a member of St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Forest Grove, Oregon.
Among his special interests Monico enjoyed hunting, gardening, canning tomatoes, target shooting, loved pets, and being with his family. His wife Guadalupe always said that he was like Moses, getting his family and close friends out of Durango and into the United States.
Monico was preceded in death by his parents, Inocente Estrada Peinado and Flora Acuņa Carmona; his son, Juan Estrada; his siblings, Luz, Ismael, Santiago (Audon), Jose, Alfonso, Amador, and Inocento. Monico was the last survivor of the Estrada Acuņa Family.
Survivors include his wife, Maria Guadalupe Herrera Acuņa, of the family home in Forest Grove; his fourteen children, Gabriela, Maria, Ismael, Leonor, Miguel, Monico, Santiago, Alfonso, Flora, Lupe (Maria), Jorge, Claudia, and Oscar Estrada.
Also surviving are his forty-five grandchildren, thirty great grandchildren, and three great great grandchildren.
