Obituary: Ivan Shannon Pearce, passed away 9 November 2012, in Nampa, ID. He was born to Joseph Harrison Pearce and Minnie Lund Pearce on 2 April 1915 in Eager, AZ. He was the son and grandson of pioneers to that area. He remembered as a small child, his father, who was an Arizona Ranger, bringing prisoners to their home overnight before he moved them on to a territorial jail. As a boy Ivan would occasionally be called on to hitch up the horse and buggy at night to drive his mother, who was a midwife, to the home of a woman in labor. For years his children and grandchildren loved to hear him tell exciting stories of the 'olden days' when he was a boy, especially the stories about bears. He grew up as a real calf ropin', bull doggin' cowboy. He was an excellent horseman. He had a fine voice and loved to sing. Ivan was a rancher in various parts of the Northwest; Idaho, Oregon, California, and Nevada. He occasionally participated in calf roping in local rodeos. He worked very hard all his life and taught his children the value of work. Ivan had a great sense of humor and there was a lot of laughter in his home.
Ivan was passionate about two things: his family and his religion. He was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served as a Bishop and in many callings in his church. He especially loved holding family home evening each week. He taught his children the gospel of Jesus Christ. Ivan and Maurine served as missionaries in the Texas Dallas Mission. He loved being a missionary. He was a generous man and helped many people in his lifetime.
He married Francis Graves in 1937. They had two sons, Gary and Dale Pearce. After his first marriage ended, he married Jean Haag in the Salt Lake LDS Temple, in 1946. They had nine children. Jean passed away after open heart surgery. Ivan later married Maurine Ashcroft in 1971.
Ivan was preceded in death by wives Frances Graves, Jean Haag Pearce, and Maurine Ashcroft Pearce and three grandchildren, Shannon and Woodruff Burk and Hailey May Pearce. He is survived by eleven children, (six sons, five daughters), 76 grandchildren, and 92 great grandchildren. His children are Gary Pearce and Parley Pearce of Walla, Walla, Washington; Dale Pearce and Sonya Washburn of Nampa, ID; Shannon Pearce, Brian Pearce, and Senator Monty Pearce of New Plymouth, ID; Beau Burk of Emmett, ID; Bunny Kitt of Cranbrook, British Columbia; Melodee Andersen of Orem, UT; and Dixie Grissom of Taylor, AZ. He is also survived by three brothers," Pete" Armond Pearce of Soccorro, NM, Grover Pearce of Red Bluff, CA and Nile Pearce of Chico, CA.
Ivan wanted to express his gratitude for the outstanding care given at Kindred Care Center in Nampa. "Thank you all," from Ivan "the Cowboy".
Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, November 19 at the Nampa 10 Ward LDS Chapel, 927 Ruth, Nampa with a viewing to be held from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. prior to the services. Arrangements are being provided by Zeyer Funeral Chapel, Nampa. 467-7300.
