The Shippensburg News (Shippensburg, PA), Friday, 27 Mar 1891:
Dr. Samuel P. Ziegler died at his home, in Carlisle, Tuesday evening, at half past nine o'clock, after an illness of about nine weeks. He had been gradually breaking in health for a year past and the end was not unexpected by his friends who had noticed his failing health. He was born October 11th, 1818, and at the time of his death was in his 73d year. He graduated at Jefferson Medical College in 1845 and with the exception of a few years has practiced his profession continuously in Carlisle since that time, and was the oldest practitioner in the community. As a physician he was successful and for many years enjoyed a very extensive practice. As a citizen his modesty and real worth were so marked as to challenge and command the respect of the entire community. He has been treasurer of the Cumberland County Medical Society since its organization and in its growth and prosperity he always manifested the greatest interest. He was an early and consistent member of the Second Presbyterian Church and carried his religion into his every day life. He was married to Miss Sarah Creswell [sic], of Shippensburg, who, with one daughter survives him.
