One of 6 children. Martha was born the year the Sommerville family moved from Palmyra to Nashville. It is unknown whether she was born in Nashville or Palmyra. Martha never married. She lived at home with her father in until his death. Her brother John H. married and moved to Montgomery Alabama. Her brothers G.W. and Maxwell fought in the war of 1812.In the 1850's she was boarding at the St. Cloud Hotel. She can be found in the 1870 census still living in Nashville with her niece Lizzie Young.

You had Lizzie write to my G'G'Grandfather Robert A. Sommerville letting him know that you feared his brother had been lost at sea in the Great Havana Hurricane of 1846. Your letter resurfaced after sitting in an envelope for over 50 yrs.
